BICENTENARY CELEBRATION SERIES

GREAT BRITAIN IN PERU'S INDEPENDENCE, MAURICO NOVOA AND NATALIA SOBREVILLA PEREA IN CONVERSATION

The Anglo Peruvian Society is very pleased to announce a ZOOM lecture on Tuesday December 8th at 6pm by two Peruvian specialists: Mauricio Novoa and Natalia Sobrevilla Perea.

As we approach the bicentennial of Peru's independence we reflect on the British participation in the process. Lord Thomas Cochrane, Earl of Dundonald led the naval charge that made Peruvian independence possible. He was supported by George Martin Guise and William Miller. Together all these veterans of the Napoleonic Wars made the independence of Peru possible. Mauricio Novoa who edited the book: Peru and Great Britain, a common history and Natalia Sobrevilla Perea who wrote the chapter on the period of the wars of independence, will be in conversation to illuminate the connections between Britain and Peru in this period.

Mauricio Novoa was educated in Lima and Cambridge, and has published on various aspects of Latin American legal and intellectual history.

Natalia Sobrevilla Perea is Professor of Latin American History at the University of Kent, she specialises in the Wars of independence in South America and the creation of nations.
