We would like to invite you to our next up coming event at the Peruvian Embassy with John Forrest and Hugo Lepage.

‘The Cañete Valley: Challenges and opportunities for remote Andean communities’ - John Forrest will outline the fabulous natural and cultural attractions of the Cañete Valley, in the department of Lima, and the challenges communities face to maintain their livelihoods and populations.

Laraos Terraces

Greening and Browning trends on the Pacific slope with a focus on the Cañete valley’ - Hugo Lepage will discuss his recently published paper about vegetation changes along the western flank of the Peruvian Andes and report on a significant strip of recent vegetation growth spanning three climate zones. A comprehensive trend analysis was applied to satellite data from the last 20 years to describe geo-spatial changes in vegetation along the Pacific slope from sea-level to the continental divide. This work provides insights into understanding the effects of climate change on Peru’s diverse ecosystems in highly sensitive, biologically unique arid and semi-arid environments on the Pacific slope. Examples from the Cañete valley will illustrate the talk.
